My New True Love

The Hawaii State Library. Yep, I love this place. I know that probably makes me a nerd , but I can't help it. I am who I am. A library lover.
Within its air conditioned walls I am free to explore, search out, and discover. This place inspires me much like my visit last April to Washington D.C. did. When I left D.C. I was ready to run for office. For what, I did not know. But I was ready to run just the same! This place, makes me want to be a librarian.
Oh yeah, I was a librarians assistant in junior high. I hated it. But I just know it would be different this time. Here is the gateway into the children's and youth department. The display located outside the children's section has a case with the current months theme. April is, "Learn about the Reef" month. Or something like that.
While I was gathering up another weeks worth of readers for O'doggy and Miss. Livi, Scotty read Hawaiiana books to the youngsters. I love how the children's section is so efficiently organized. There is a Hawaiiana section complete with books of history, legends, plants and animals, and famous people of Hawaii. Why doesn't my library back home have a "Pacific Northwest" section?
I also love that the Newbery and the Caldacot winners have their own special place. This makes it so simple to peruse the winners instead of having to look them up individually in the catalogue and search for them. They are all together! In one location! I love that!
Zach says, "I look like a nerd. And I need a haircut. And some new board shorts". It was his idea to have his picture taken by the large library card.
Miss. M loves this library too. It's huge and has every book she could hope to find. I love that it has books predating the '80's. Why does my library back home feel the need to purge all books written before 1979? Is it political? It it to save space? Or is it just stupidity? Ya, that's it. Stupidity driven by politics in order to save space. Huh?
Yep, this library is my new love. I'll be sad to leave it when it's time to return to the mainland. Wait a minute! Is there any possible way I could fit it into my suitcase?!?
