Here is the Giant African snail. It rained pretty hard around here last night, so this morning when I went out to start a load of laundry, I found an abundance of these guys around the yard. They are pests. They are illegal to keep as pets. And they carry a pretty nasty bacteria. He's got a pretty shell though. And it was pretty fascinating to watch as he ate one rotten leaf after another.

Achatina fulica....

Gross........but not as gross as the giant Wa. banana slugs..yech!
I think having a pretty shell gives him some bonus points...on one of my first trips to Hawaii I found an empty shell and was so excited about finding it....I thought it was a sea shell. :o( Was embarassed and dissapointed to learn it was a vacant mobile home of a snail!
