Spam Jam '08... a Recipe....and a Give Away !

Yep, we are heading out to the Waikiki Spam Jam. Sounds like fun, huh? Hawaiians loove Spam! I have heard that the state of Hawaii eats more Spam than any other state in the union.

What in the world is Spam exactly? Well, I could tell you but I think you'd have more fun learning for yourselves. Here, thanks to Hormel the makers of Spam, you can learn everything and more about Hawaii's favorite canned luncheon meat! Read it carefully because on Monday there will be a contest! And whoever can answer a trivia question regarding all things Spam will win a prize! It'll be a good one too. So study hard my friends!

Okay, now for the promised recipe. There was a bunch to choose from, but this one sounded to most appetizing to me. I'll just tell you though Hawaii's favorite way to eat Spam is in a Spam musubi.

World War II Spam and Egg Sandwich

INGREDIENTS
1 tablespoon butter
2 tablespoons finely chopped onion
1 slice fully cooked luncheon meat (e.g. Spam)
1 egg, beaten
2 slices bread
1 slice American cheese (optional)
1 slice tomato (optional)

DIRECTIONS
Melt butter in a small skillet over medium-high heat. Saute the onion in butter until soft. Mash up the slice of luncheon meat with a fork, and add it to the skillet. Cook for 2 or 3 minutes, until browned. Pour the egg into the skillet so that it covers all of the meat and onion. Cook until firm, then flip to brown the other side.
Place the egg and meat onto one slice of the bread and top with cheese and tomato if desired. Place the other piece of bread on top. Bread can also be toasted first.

Do you have any favorite Spam recipes or memories to share? How about it Uncle Ryan?

My favortie SPAM recipe:
Take one can of SPAM,
Throw it right in the garbage,
Eat a peanup butter and jelly sandwich,
Then walk away with a smile and a full belly!
It's really quite delicous.

I would go to Ryan's house, send in one the kids to get the precious can out of the trash(if only Gollum knew about Spam he would have thrown away that Dumb old Ring) take home our price home. After that it would heaven, watching and waiting, for my loving wife to bring forth a master piece. Then have peanut butter and jelly sanMich for dessert.
