A Little House Needs Help

My dining room, art studio, sewing room, school room needs help! I've had my machine set up pretty much always since Scott has been gone. I will need to make a spot for him at our DINING TABLE soon. Then what? (I'm working on a new clothespin bag.)

Miss. M and I are enrolled in a water color class and as you can see art supplies have taken over even more of the school and eating space. Some thing's gotta give. I wish I could give up eating. I know I must continue the education of the kiddos, so tossing out the school books isn't an option either. So what?

Miss. M finds inspiration for practicing the techniques learned in children's literature. I'm thrilled that she loves children's lit as much as I. And I'm thrilled that she has some talent.

I must find a way to make room in our little house for all our pursuits (without having to put everything away) and serve meals at the table so all may eat comfortably without fear of getting our projects dirty. I need suggestions.

What about a small table, like a card table, or folding office table, that you push against the wall and put everything on? Some of the projects can even go in boxes under the table... I've found it handy to keep my sewing machine on the floor under the table, but plugged in.

Costco and office supply stores sell folding office tables which are long and narrow, a useful size that doesn't take up as much space as a dining table.

I like your idea about giving up eating ;-) And I LOVE LOVE LOVE your watercolor pictures I see in progress!!! Nope, can't put that away at all! Hmmmm..... Can the sewing machine go into your bedroom? (you can see where my priorities do NOT lie!) I agree, it needs to stay set up or it never happens......

How about changing your wicker sitting area into an eating space - perhaps a round table with a leaf that you can store under the couch for easy access - It can be reserved for eating only since your dining room table is bigger and farther from the kitchen - keep that for the non-eating activities. Since you have such a beautiful yard you could turn your wicker furniture into PATIO furniture. I can't wait to see what you come up with.

I am not nearly qualified to make a suggestion. I make messes.

You could build a craft yurt in your backyard. In a pinch, a tee-pee would probably work but it'll require alot more pelts than a yurt.....maybe you could harvest the pelt from the deer Owen and Livi found last summer. I hope this helps.

Lovely indeed! Beautiful work, Miss M.
I've concluded through observing my grandfather, that an artist needs an easel set up at all times. That way you're ready to paint as the creative mood strikes you... and the mood is less apt to be squelched by the chore of having to set everything up. Besides, a sizeable work is usually created through a span of sittings, rather than just one.

If you put an easel next to the sliding door in your room, you could paint alongside natural light on cold days, and then bring it out onto your patio on warm summer days. Nothing like a bit of nature to infiltrate your senses and spur you on!

Watercolor is my favorite painting medium. I spent a span of lovely afternoons as a newly married romantic studying some watercolor methods. ahhhh.

You could get rid of the computer and put a disignated caft table on that wall. *grins*

For some reason, I don't think anyone would be too trilled with that idea.

I do like the outdoor carft yurt idea! Too bad the weather isn't too great for that around here. =P

Thank you ladies AND gentlemen for your great ideas. I've began collecting the lint from children's belly buttons to make felt to cover the craft yurt! What a brilliant idea!
I think I'm on to something and I'll post some pictures when I'm finished. :O)

I wonder if you can find a thrifted sewing table...craig's list? St. Vincent's?

It might fit nicely in front of your window and give you a space to contain your sewing projects?

Wow, that watercolor is amazing Mic! Don't give it up. And Nancy, I've seen your sewing projects which are also very good. You have gotten a lot of really good ideas. I like the idea of utilizing your space where the wicker furniture is. That place has always been a comfortable setting. I'm curious to see what you do.

Well, Miss M I am truelu amazed by your art! Did you know that Granny, Auntie Gwen and Auntie Karen are very good with water colors? Auntie G also used oils. I have no such talent. That girl in the picture reminds me of you.
Nanyc, I love the wicker where it is. I am sure you will come up with a solution to the "problem". You know what I would do..so I won't type it here. LOL Ma
