Christmas Candy or Cookie Exchange?

Each year I make our favorite candies and cookies, but I'm always willing to try out new recipes. It's an opportunity to find a new obsession, a new treat to make my fam-diggity smile...a new way to fatten up for the coming winter....that's what the bears and squirrels do right? I hate to be cold.....that's my reasoning. I'm gonna need that extra stored energy to burn while I shiver through the next few months.

Wouldn't it be fun to add something new to our repertoire of baking goodness? I'm suggesting an on-line Christmas Goody Recipe Exchange. Come on ladies and gents. It'll be fun and maybe a bit fattening but that's what New Year's is for right? To get in shape?

Beanball, I'd love to have your Mint Frango's recipe. Please.
Miss. Nona? What would the gals in the 1850's bake for the holidays?
Michelle, you always have something yummy up your sleeve...or on your nose....or...
Mrs. Santos, do have anything Raw you'd like to share?
Ryan, what do you make to impress your friends and family?
Jenny? Care to participate?
Barb-Harmony, you are a talented woman...you must have a favorite that needs to be shared.
Sarah?
Mother? Do you bake anymore? Do you read this blog anymore??
How about you Beth?
Conti, your pumpkin bars are wonderful. Do have any other easy treats?
Auntie Amy! I know you'll have something to share!

If you want to participate I guess the easiest way would be to leave a comment and post the recipe on your blog or leave it in the comment section? Anyone have a suggestion on how to do this in an easy, orderly fashion?

I submit to you, these yummy looking treats...homemade Snickers Candy Bars. I hope to make these just as soon as I can get to the store and procure the necessary ingredients!

Of Course they made cookies (and candy!) in the 1850's! I almost always bring yummy homemade ginger bread cookies to the fort at Christmas time. I think doing a cookie exchange would be alot of fun!

I dont have any other way to post this other than in the comments...these are really good. Those snicker bars look really good.

Jenny :)

soft ginger cookies

2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons ground ginger
1 teaspoon baking soda
3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
1/4 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup margarine, softened
1 cup white sugar
1 egg
1 tablespoon water
1/4 cup molasses
2 tablespoons white sugar

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Sift together the flour, ginger, baking soda, cinnamon, cloves, and salt. Set aside.
In a large bowl, cream together the margarine and 1 cup sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the egg, then stir in the water and molasses. Gradually stir the sifted ingredients into the molasses mixture. Shape dough into walnut sized balls, and roll them in the remaining 2 tablespoons of sugar. Place the cookies 2 inches apart onto an ungreased cookie sheet, and flatten slightly.
Bake for 8 to 10 minutes in the preheated oven. Allow cookies to cool on baking sheet for 5 minutes before removing to a wire rack to cool completely. Store in an airtight container.

My favorite - besides the frangos - is this....

Almond Roca:
1 c. butter
1/2 c. brown sugar
1/2 c. white sugar
1 tsp vanilla
1 egg yolk
2 c. flour
2-3 c. milk chocolate chips
1 c. chopped almonds (or a little more)

Cream butter and sugar. Beat in vanilla and egg. Add flour. Press into a 10x14 and bake at 400 degrees for 16-20 minutes, until edges are slightly browned. While still warm, sprinkle chocolate chips on the top and spread around until melted. Sprinkle almonds on top, and cut into small pieces while slightly warm. Enjoy! (Store in refrigerator)

Hello Everyone:

I have posted a recipe on my blog and linked to your web site there...Raw Chocolate/Peanutty Goodness. Hope you enjoy. You've probably made them many times before minus the raw cacao.

Everything sounds so good. We made some key lime cookies yesterday. They were good, but gone in a flash.

Love you,

Mrs. Santos ;)

The great thing about these: There is a surprise inside every on of them! You can substitute what every you like (I used chocolate chips, butterscotch, and white chocolate).

Amy's bon bons

1/2 cp soft butter
3/4 cp icing sugar
1tsp vanilla
1 1/2 cps flour
1/8 tsp salt

Mix all ingredients. Add cream till dough is soft enough to make small balls. Place a treat inside (cherry, Hershey hug or kiss), covering completely with dough. Place 1-2" apart on greased cookie sheet. Bake approximately 10 min. at 350F.
Icing: 1 cp icing sugar, cream till of spreading consistency, vanilla, or food coloring if desired. When cookie tops cool, dip in icing sugar.
