The word Advent comes from the Latin word, adventus, meaning "coming". It is a special time of the year for my family, full of expectant waiting and preparation for the celebration of the birth of Jesus. For me though, it has become the expectant waiting, preparation, and longing for the second coming of my Lord and Saviour. Through the years I have endeavoured to make Christmas meaningful for my family, and I hope to share with you some of the ways we celebrate His birth and His eminent return. Advent begins on the fourth Sunday before Christmas Day, which is the Sunday nearest November 30, and ends on Christmas Eve. So, yesterday was the first day of Advent this year. It is hard for me to start the Christmas season before Thanksgiving but....
This video speaks of the need to bring meaning into our worship of Christ at this time of the year. Consumerism is not equal to happiness! I love the idea of giving expirences and relationship as gifts. Spending time with someone actually costs us more, right? Our time is valuable.
